The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the person who shot its K-9, Kilo, and a reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest.
Donny Gerald from Donny Gerald Auto Sales in Mullins is offering the reward.
The sheriff’s office K-9 unit said Kilo escaped his enclosure on Tuesday evening while wearing his orange collar, designating him as a sheriff’s office K-9. Kilo was found shortly after that and had been shot.
Kilo was rushed to North Carolina State University for surgery, according to the sheriff’s office.
Anyone with information about the identity and whereabouts of the shooter is asked to call 9-1-1.
The sheriff’s office is also asking for your prayers for Kilo and the entire K-9 team.
K-9 Kilo will undergo reconstructive surgery on his left rear femur on Thursday afternoon at NC State University, said a post on the Marion County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit Facebook page.
An investigation continues.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for K-9 Kilo.
“Funds will be used for Kilo’s medical bills, any future care, and special supplies he may need,” the GoFundMe page said. “Community support means everything to us. Kilo is our search and rescue K9. He is used to help find missing persons and is a huge hit at our elementary schools.”
Donations for K-9 Kilo’s medical fund can be mailed to the MCSO at 2715 East Highway 76, Ste C, Mullins, SC 29574, according to a post on the Marion County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit Facebook page.
On Friday, the reward “for information leading to the arrest of the subject(s) responsible for shooting K9 Kilo” was increased to $1,850 dollars, according to a post on the MCSO’s Facebook page.
This comes days after cows were shot at a farm on Smith Millpond Road off Highway 501 in Marion County.
