Marion County fire station opens cooling shelter to beat the heat

As temperatures soar into the triple digits and are expected to stay there for some time, local fire officials opened a cooling shelter Wednesday morning for residents to come and beat the heat.

The Marion County Fire Department on Bond Street are directing residents who don’t have air conditioning in their homes to its facility.

“We don’t ask questions. We just direct people where to go and they just come in and cool off. They don’t usually stay too long. But hey you can stay as long as you need too if you need to get in and out of this weather anytime it’s in the triple digits. It’s over one hundred degrees,” says Marion County Fire Chief Trey Cooper.

Fire officials say the cooling shelter will remain open until further notice.

If you have any questions or need any assistance  due to the heat you can contact the Marion County Fire Department at 843-423-8602.
