MARION, SC (WBTW) – A Marion business owner is recovering after being shot in the chest during an armed robbery.

Marion County Police Chief Dewayne Tennie said it happened at the Ming Wu Japanese restaurant on US Hwy 76 in Marion Saturday night.

Tennie said a man came into the restaurant before closing Saturday and stole a tip jar with money in it and walked out of the store. Tennie said that’s when the owner of the business ran outside after the man in an attempt to retrieve the tip jar. Both the robber and the owner got into a heated argument. That’s when, Tennie said, the robber shot the restaurant owner in the chest.

Tennie said deputies are still searching for the robber.

The owner of the restaurant is expected to survive. He is still in the hospital.
