Mack McClellan says you won’t find a shower in most barber shops today. But his has one— and a lot of items at Taylor’s Barber Shop in Marion you won’t find anywhere else, like antique mirrors, 100 year old chairs and original flooring.

That’s because the barber shop has been giving hair cuts in Marion since 1914, and it still has many of its original items. 

“People like to come in and see the old stuff– the coat rack, the mirrors on the walls, the back bar stands all the same,” McClellan.

The shop’s spinning barber post has also been at the shop since it first opened in 1914. It represents a time when barbers did more than cut hair.

“We used to pull teeth, do minor sew ups, McClellan says.

While McClellan won’t pull your teeth today, he says as long as the pole is turned on, his shop is open, just like the old days. It’s that tradition, he says, that keeps bringing customers back.
