NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – On Tuesday, presidential candidate Marco Rubio will host a town hall at the Barefoot conference center in North Myrtle Beach. Rubio is no stranger to the Grand Strand or the Pee Dee. Yesterday he spoke in Florence and last week he had a town hall at the Crown Reef resort in Myrtle Beach.
With the South Carolina primaries just four days away, the senator is looking to talk with as many people as he can.
CBS news polled republican and independent voters after Saturday’s GOP debate.
32% of respondents thought Marco Rubio won the debate. 24% of people thought Donald Trump won. John Kasich had 19%, Ted Cruz had 12%, Ben Carson had 8% and 5% voted that Jeb Bush won.
According to the latest CBS news poll, Trump still holds a commanding lead in South Carolina.
Trump has 42 percent support and his closest competitor is Ted Cruz with 20% of the vote.
Marco Rubio is third with 15% and John Kasich is fourth with 9%. Jeb Bush and Ben Carson are tied with 6%.
Rubio isn’t too caught up in the numbers. He’s says he’s worried about how to turn the country around.
“These are difficult times but 2016 can be a turning point. That’s why I’m running for president and that’s why I’m here today to ask you for your vote. If you elect me president, we are going to re- embrace free enterprise so that everyone can go as far as their talent and their work will take them. We are going to be a country that says that, “life begins at conception and life is worthy of the protection of our laws.”
We’re going to be a country that says. “that marriage is between one man and one woman.” We are going to be a country that says, “the constitution and the rights that it talks about do not come from our president, they come from our creator.”
Rubio came in third place in Iowa and in fifth place in New Hampshire. He picked up as many delegates as those who were in third and fourth place in New Hampshire. Rubio says he’s trying to get as many delegates as possible here in South Carolina and then once he’s in winner-takes-all states, he knows he’ll have to win those.
Doors will open at 4:45 this afternoon and the event begins at 5:30. Each guest is required to RSVP and complete a separate registration. You can get tickets on www.eventbrite.com.
