FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) – For more than 20 years the Manna House in Florence has been feeding the hungry. This Thanksgiving Manna volunteers say they will have double the number of volunteers to make sure everyone has a warm breakfast and lunch. They expect more than 300 people to visit the Christ driven soup kitchen Thursday.
The Manna House is a Christ driven soup kitchen with one goal to make sure no one in Florence is hungry especially on Thanksgiving.
Manna House volunteers say the nonprofit organization is more of a family that brings people together.
Reholda Willouhghby says this Thanksgiving will be really hard because she won’t spend it with her family.
She thanks God for the meals and community feel she gets while at the manna house.
Willoughby explains, “This is my home and I just appreciate everybody helping out and coming together.”
Willoughby says Thanksgiving Day is just another day to give thanks for all of the things God does for us.
Volunteer Paul Jones says three generations of his family will serve people starting early Thursday morning.
Jones says 20 years in the military and begin a Christian makes him feel called to serve people.
He says he hopes to teach his daughters and nieces the value of supporting others when life is tough.
Jones said, “It’s just part of bringing them up the way I want it to be done. To let them know that life is not so easy all the time and people need a support system.”
Jones says his family will serve breakfast and lunch. Then go home and cook their dinner. It will be a long day but the biggest reward is seeing the smiles on their faces after eating the meals he cooked.
The Manna House will serve breakfast from 8:30am to 9:30. Then serve lunch from 11- noon. Anyone who needs a hot meal is welcome.
The nonprofit organization volunteers say they hope to continue to serve the hungry but a few appliances are making it hard to store food. They are accept monetary donations or help with fixing the appliances.
