TIMMONSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – Several law enforcement agencies are combing a swamp near Timmonsville after a driver in a stolen car ran from state highway patrol Monday afternoon.
Cpl. Sonny Collins with the SC Highway Patrol says the chase began in Sumter County and ended in Darlington County when the suspect jumped out of the car off of Tolson Road.
Deputies with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office and the Florence County Sheriff’s Office were called in to set up a perimeter and help SC Highway Patrol find the suspect.
According to Chief Deputy Glen Kirby with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, the driver that ran from troopers was reportedly in a stolen car. Though the pursuit ended in Darlington County, the suspect ran in the direction of the Florence County line.
The suspect was last seen wearing black sweatpants and a black sweatshirt and jumping into the swamp off of 7 Bridges Road and Tolson Road. Officials have not yet released the driver’s name.
The Florence County Sheriff’s Office helicopter was deployed and officials with the SC Department of Natural Resources are on the ground helping in the search, according to Kirby.
