Man wanted in a Lamar kidnapping captured in Kansas

DARLINGTON, SC (WBTW) – Authorities captured a man wanted in a Lamar burglary and kidnapping.

Devante Lamar Clark, 26, was captured in Kansas and is now in custody in Darlington County, according to Sheriff Tony Chavis.

Investigators say on Feb. 19, Clark, of Bishopville, and Barry Anthony Jones, Jr., 21, of Timmonsville, entered a victim’s home near Lamar and assaulted the victim.

The pair allegedly took money and items out of the home, and then kidnapped the victim.  The pair then took the victim to an area bank to force the victim to retrieve money, but the victim escaped.

Clark was extradited to South Carolina, arriving Thursday evening.  Clark is expected to appear before a magistrate on Saturday on charges kidnapping and first-degree burglary.

Jones was arrested March 1, charged with first-degree burglary and kidnapping, and was denied bond. Jones remains in custody at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center.
