UPDATE – The Charleston Police Department just announced the suspect wanted in connection with the ambush and shooting of a Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputy last week was shot and killed by SWAT members after the man opened fire on them Thursday afternoon around 2 p.m.
The man had barricaded himself inside a Charleston apartment for nearly 9 hours before the incident ended with his death.

CHARLESTON, SC – Charleston PD has confirmed that the suspect wanted in the shooting of Berkeley County Sheriff Deputy Lt. Will Rogers is in a standoff downtown Charleston in an apartment in Robert Mills Manor on Beaufain St.
It is being treated as a hostage situation.
CPD says the Police operation is in the area of Cromwell Alley. They are asking motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area until further notice.
Cromwell between Smith and Franklin, and Smith between Queen and Beaufain are currently closed to traffic.
SLED, CPD SWAT, Hostage Negotiations, EDU are all on the scene. Family members are also on the scene talking with the suspect.
