CAMDEN, N.C. — A man stole a North Carolina woman’s identity to purchase about $8,000 in high fashion shoes and have them shipped to him, officials say.
Tecorey Deonte Jamal Fortson of Suffolk, Va. is facing various charges after he was arrested this week, Camden County Sheriff Tony Perry said in an email on Wednesday.
Perry said that the woman’s identity was stolen and the suspect bought 6 pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes worth $8,000. Christian Louboutin shoes are commonly known as the “red bottom” shoes because of their signature red soles.
“The items were then shipped by UPS to Camden County where they were to be picked up by Fortson,” Perry said.
Deputies found Fortson at the UPS location waiting for the package and arrested him on Monday, according to officials.
Fortson managed to get two other packages in the last week by using the same ruse, Perry said.
“Fortson signed the victim’s name and accepted the packages,” Perry said.
Forston is charged with felony obtaining property by false pretense, felony identity theft and common law forgery.
Fortson was jailed at the Albemarle District Jail and then freed on a $25,000 secured bond. His court date is planned for Aug. 26.
