MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A man was seen “jerking and yanking” a dog with a sunburned nose, a police report says.
Around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers observed a man walking northbound on 14th Avenue N. and North Ocean Blvd., according to an incident report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department. The man was reportedly seen “violently jerking and yanking the dog, a male Collie mix.”
Officers stopped the man, who “smelled of alcohol” and was “unsteady on his feet,” the report said. The man reportedly told police that he was jerking the dog because the dog was “being a dick.” The man also reportedly said that he had been looking for his vehicle for several hours with the dog.
The dog was reportedly attempting to get away from the offender and when stopped, the dog hid under the bushes in the shade “to get relief from the heat,” the report also said. “Painting heavily, the dog was provided water, which was quickly drank. The dog`s nose was sunburned, indicating the dog had been in direct sun for a lengthy amount of time.”
The dog was placed in an air-conditioned vehicle and taken to the Grand Strand Humane Society for treatment.
The report identifies the man as Christopher Zareck, 47.
According to the Myrtle Beach Municipal Court, Zareck was ticketed.
