MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A 54-year-old Myrtle Beach man is in jail for leaving the scene of the crash after he hit a bicyclist traveling on Holmestown Road Saturday, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Cpl. Sonny Collins confirms troopers arrested Laurence Henry Flanegan, 54, of Myrtle Beach, and booked him on multiple charges after a bicyclist he hit died Tuesday from his injuries.

Flanegan appeared in court Wednesday for a bond hearing. The judge granted him $25,000 bond for his hit and run charge. Flanegan is also charged with driving with and expired license and driving too fast for conditions. Solicitor Jimmy Richardson says Flanegan faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Flanegan, driving a 2004 Toyota SUV, was headed west on Holmestown Road around 6 p.m. Saturday evening when he struck a cyclist traveling the same direction, Cpl. Collins adds.

Flanegan left the scene of the crash, but was later located by troopers. The bicyclist was taken to a local hospital Saturday evening, but died Tuesday from injuries sustained from the crash, according to Cpl. Collins. The victim has been identified as Vincent Gimeno, 55, of Myrtle Beach, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Flanegan was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday on charges of driving too fast for conditions, failure to acquire valid tags and leaving the scene of an incident involving death. No bail has been set according to online booking records.
