LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – A man who attempted to rob another man was shot and killed in Robeson County on Friday, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
In a press release, the sheriff’s office said Samuel Dewayne Brooks and another man parked near the intersection of NC Hwy. 711 and Deep Branch Road on Friday afternoon. Brooks and the man called a third man to meet them, and when the third man arrived just before 2:15 p.m., Brooks pulled out a gun and tried to rob the man, the release stated. The man who had come to meet Brooks also pulled out a gun and shot Brooks.
Brooks died in the hospital operating room in Lumberton, the release stated.
Brooks, 35, had an address listed on Deep Branch Road in Maxton.
The District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case to determine if charges will be filed.
