LAMAR, S.C. (WBTW) – According to the Lamar Police Department a man fired shots at an officer during a traffic stop Sunday afternoon.
The officer pulled over and stopped the man for a traffic violation around 4:00pm.
Police say he then jumped out of the car and ran into a wooded area. Officers say the man then fired two shots but the officer did not return fire and called for back-up instead.
Once additional officers arrived to the scene, they took the suspect into custody. He is currently held at the Darlington County jail.
Lamar Police Chief Charles Woodle says the suspect is charged with a traffic violation and more charges for discharging a firearm will be filed at a later time.
