CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A man received an 8-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to having 16 grams of meth in his pockets.
Vernon Alvin Weathers, Jr., 39, of Waterloo, was in North Myrtle Beach when an officer stopped the driver of a car in which he was riding for a traffic violation, according to Horry County Circuit Court.
Weathers was then found with 16 grams of methamphetamine in his pants pocket, said Assistant Solicitor George Henry Martin, III. An officer with the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety stopped the vehicle in May 2017.
Weathers pleaded guilty on Thursday to second-offense trafficking methamphetamine 10 to 28 grams. Judge Benjamin Culbertson sentenced him to 8 years in prison and a fine of $50,000.
“Weathers’ conviction is classified as both a violent and a serious offense and he must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole,” Martin said.
