Man gets 30 years in prison for armed robbery, assault on Conway store clerk

CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A man charged with beating a Conway store clerk during an armed robbery was sentenced to prison.

According to a press release, Michael Givens pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery on Wednesday, August 31st, and was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment.

The negotiated sentence was imposed by Circuit Court Judge Larry B. Hyman.   Givens will have to serve 85% before being considered for parole.

On December 26, 2015, Michael Givens robbed a Kangaroo gas station located in Conway.  He entered the store,and assaulted the clerk with a wooden broom, and stole money from the safe.  The case was set for trial beginning on Tuesday, September 6th.

Assistant Solicitor Seth Oskin prosecuted the case for the Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

“This was a job well done by Detective Greg Lent and the Horry County Police Department.  I also hope this plea brings peace to the victims of the robbery”, said Assistant Solicitor Seth Oskin.
