Myrtle Beach police officers responded to an assault Tuesday night near the SkyWheel in downtown Myrtle Beach.

Police tell News13 they responded to an assault call just after 7 p.m. on New Year’s Day along Mr. Joe White Avenue.

One person was taken to the hospital. Police tell us the person’s injuries appear to be consistent with a stabbing. A police report suggests the victim, a 45-year-old man, was bleeding from the neck area. He was taken to Grand Strand Medical Center with a ‘severe laceration’, according to the report.

Police say one person was detained. Corporal Thomas Vest with the MBPD says the person is now in custody at their jail and is awaiting charges, as of 11:30 p.m. 

A police report lists 41-year-old Donald Eugene Shephard as the only suspect.
