HANAHAN, S.C. — A man is facing DUI charges, after parking his car on the train tracks in Hanahan, leading to a crash involving an Amtrak train.

The Amtrak Auto Train, number 52 hit a vehicle that was stopped on the tracks near Hanahan, across the street from Northwoods Mall near Eagle Landing Boulevard.

According to Hanahan Police Chief Dennis Turner, Hung Tran,54, parked his car on the railroad track and got out of his vehicle before the train hit. Law enforcement on scene took his breathe sample, which resulted in blood alcohol content level of .15 percent, according to Turner. The legal limit is .08 percent.

Tran was booked into the Berkeley County Detention Center on DUI charges.

No one on the train was injured, according to Amtrak officials.

The train was delayed for about three hours before continuing north.

A neighbor says she heard a big crash and it sounded like a car crash, but they weren’t sure. Then we saw a police car, an ambulance and a fire truck out there. She also added that she’s not sure how someone could have stopped on the tracks since the big arms come down on both sides.
