CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A man from Loris faces several charges after he opened fire on a family in a residential area Tuesday.
Booking records say 31-year-old Brandon Wells faces four counts of attempted murder, burglary, assault and weapons charges following the shootout in Conway. Police say he turned himself in Wednesday.
The police report states Conway police officers responded to Boundary Street Tuesday afternoon about a shooting. By the time police arrived to meet with the victims, the suspect has already driven away.
The 20-year-old male victim told police they were walking down the street when Wells tried to hit him with a car Wells was sitting inside in the driveway of a home. The victim went home to tell his family what happened.
The 20-year-old’s aunt walked with him back to where the car tried to hit him. When they got there, Wells tried to hit them both with the car. An argument ensued and Wells punched the 20-year-old’s aunt in the face two to three times with a closed fist.
According to the report, Wells went to his home, returned with a gun, ducked behind a car for cover, and began firing shots toward the 20-year-old, his aunt and his mother. The police report states its estimated Wells fired approximately 15 rounds, emptying one magazine and inserting another.
The victims ducked for cover until the mother was able to reach her .38 caliber revolver in the center console of her car. The mother returned fire at Wells, emptying all five rounds in the weapon.
Wells drove away from the scene.
When police arrived, the mother turned over her gun to officers, the aunt declined EMS care and a crime scene was set up.
Police found eight .9 mm Blazer shell casings in the driveway and another .9mm shell casing in the door of the mother’s car.
No charges were filed against the mother.
