Man ejected from minivan, killed in fiery NC crash

SOUTHERN PINES, NC — A man was ejected from his minivan and killed after crashing the vehicle Monday morning in Southern Pines, the Aberdeen Times reported.

The crash happened around 3:45 a.m. in the 2700 block of Camp Easter Road near McDeeds Creek Road just off N.C. Highway 22.

According to the Aberdeen Times, the 2004 Chevrolet Venture minivan rolled and ejected the 32-year-old male driver. The van then caught on fire.

Crews responded to the scene for a call of a vehicle on fire and a possible vehicle accident. When firefighters arrived on scene they found the van fully involved in flames in a field around 200 feet from the road, the Aberdeen Times reported. The man was found approximately 100 feet from the burning van.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews.

One lane of Camp Easter Road was temporarily closed following the crash.

Responding to the accident were units with Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, Cypress Pointe Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS, N.C. State Medical Examiners Office, Moore County Sheriff’s Department, and the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Officials have not released the name of the victim or the cause of the crash.
