One man died and another was hurt in a crash in a head-on crash in Darlington County on Monday afternoon, authorities say.

It happened around 5:36 pm in the area of 1544 Ebenezer Road, at Geneva Drive, which is adjacent to U.S.  Highway 52 (South Main Street), according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Coroner Todd Hardee identified the man killed as 22-year-old Nathaniel George of Darlington.

The crash involved a 2000 GMC Tahoe, that was driven by a man wearing a seat belt, traveling southbound on Ebenezer Road, Sgt. Bob Beres of the  Highway Patrol said.

Meanwhile, a car, a 2007 Suzuki Forenza, driven by George, was heading northbound on the same road when “it crossed the center line and collided head-on with the Tahoe,” according to Sgt. Beres.

George was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the crash, according to Beres.

The man who was in the Tahoe was taken to McLeod Regional Medical Center for treatment, according to Sgt Beres.

This incident is under investigation by the Darlington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
