MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – On Thursday, Myrtle Beach police arrested a man and charged him with involuntary manslaughter more than 10 years after the incident occurred.
Damien Shawn Scott, 39, from Myrtle Beach was arrested Thursday at 7:30 in connection with an incident that began as assault case but was reclassified as manslaughter when the victim, 43-year-old Harold Gibson died.
The report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department says officers responded to 1709 N Ocean Boulevard on Dec 7, 2005 in regard to a fight in progress.
Investigators were told that the fight broke out when the suspect asked the victim who he was looking for at the apartment. The victim’s girlfriend ran to call police, but the suspect ran away before police arrived.
Units searched for the suspect, but were unable to find him. The victim was asked if he needed an ambulance or wanted to file a report but he declined both and the officers left.
The report says that 10 minutes later, units were called back to the same location because the victim was unconscious. The man’s girlfriend told police that he had gone to the bathroom and she later found him fallen over the toilet and his feet had turned gray.
Booking records from J Reuben Long say Scott was booked on June 19, 2016 on charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 11.
Scott is currently being held at the J Reuben Long Detention Center.
