MONCKS CORNER, SC — Authorities charged a person with boating under the influence after the boat flipped on its side on Lake Moultrie leading to the death of two men at the lake.

The incident happened just before 7:30 p.m. three miles from Short Stay boat landing on Saturday.

Jacque Warren Bracewell is officially charged with BUI / Water device, with great bodily injury.

Jake Williams, 51, of Summerville and Nathaniel Hawkins, 46, of North Charleston both died after being thrown from the boat.

The pair were found on Monday after crews searched for three days.   Authorities say multiple people were thrown from the boat after the craft hit a wave while making a turn.

Both men who died had military ties.

Hawkins was a current U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sergeant assigned to the 628th Logistics Readiness Squadron.

Hawkins served more than 28 years in the Air Force, the last six of which have been at Joint Base Charleston.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss of life,” said Col. Robert Lyman, Joint Base Charleston Commander.

“Team Charleston and I extend our deepest condolences and prayers to the family and friends of Chief Master Sergeant Nathaniel Hawkins. His leadership and care for Airmen helped shape the 628th LRS into the successful organization it is today,” Lyman added.

Williams, who also served in the US Air Force, had been deployed to the Middle East in the past, according to information on Facebook.

In the past, Williams was a flight engineer together on the C-141 aircraft and later became a loadmaster, friends said on Facebook.

On Sunday, search crews used an airplane to make numerous passes over the lake searching for the two missing men.

Officials say to their knowledge, no one on the boat was wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

Berkeley County Rescue Squad, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, and multiple fire departments helped in the search.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is still investigating.

Bracewell was booked in the Berkeley County jail on Saturday at 11:55 p.m. A judge granted Bracewell a surety bond of $20,000.— WCBD-TV contributed to this report
