A man faces multiple charges after he barricaded himself inside of a home Wednesday morning, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Burnis Wilkins tells News13 deputies were trying to serve felony warrants for Martin Elliott Brooks in the 600-block of Albert Road just after 10:30 a.m. The warrants were for weapons violations, in addition to probation and parole violations, Wilkins says.

Wilkins says deputies were speaking with a woman who lived at the address when Brooks went to the other side of the home and began “discharging his weapon.” Deputies managed to safely get out of the home with the woman.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office dispatched its SWAT team to the home, where Wilkins and deputies negotiated with Brooks after he barricaded himself inside. The situation continued for an hour and a half before Brooks surrendered, the department says.

According to Wilkins, Brooks is charged with violation of probation and parole. He will not be granted bond on the charge, Wilkins says.

He is also being charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, four counts of assault with a firearm on law enforcement officers, and one count of discharging a weapon within an enclosure to incite fear.
