Man arrested in Myrtle Beach hit-and-run that injured pedestrian

A man has been arrested in a hit-and-run on Hwy 501 in Myrtle Beach that injured a pedestrian.

According to Myrtle Beach Police Department records, 48-year-old Robert Francis Bonaccorso was arrested on Tuesday on a charge of traffic/hit and run with great bodily injury.

The MBPD said on Tuesday they are investigating the hit-and-run, which “resulted in great bodily injury to a pedestrian,” according to a press release from Cpl. Tom Vest, with the MBPD.

Around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to the area of Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach in response to a report of a person walking in the road, the release says. Upon arriving, officers found the victim had been hit by a vehicle. The vehicle left the scene.

By using evidence at the scene and by using stationary license plate readers, police determined the vehicle was owned by Red Top Taxi, the release also says. Officers have contacted the owner of the company, who has “fully cooperated” with the investigation, and the driver was identified.

No mug shot for Bonaccorso was available as of this posting.
