The man who was arrested in connection with a murder and crime spree in Horry County on Wednesday had 17 charges dismissed in Horry County in July.
According to the Horry County Public Index, James Laverne Bellamy had 17 charges dismissed on July 30. The dismissed charges include: one count of armed robbery, five counts of pointing and presenting a firearm, seven counts of kidnapping, two counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and two counts of armed robbery. These charges were filed on May 8.
The public index also shows Bellamy pleaded guilty to one count of common law robbery on July 27. Bellamy was sentenced to 95 days and was given credit for time served in North Carolina.
J. Rueben Long Detention Center booking records show Bellamy was released on July 27 and lists his booking date as April 25.
According to Jimmy Richardson, with the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Bellamy was possibly connected to two armed robberies in Horry County in 2015.
There were several witnesses in the robbery, but one became unavailable and another changed their story, Richardson also says. There was no physical evidence or DNA connecting Bellamy to the crimes.
Bellamy also had several charges in North Carolina and spent two years in jail in the state, according to Richardson.
