CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Horry County Police officers say they have made an arrest in an armed robbery and shooting that happened at a Conway gas station Wednesday morning.

Police say the incident happened at the Carolina Petro on SC 544 around 3 a.m.

Horry County Police Lt. Raul Denis said the clerk was shot twice during the robbery and taken to a local hospital for treatment. 

Denis said the clerk and a customer were robbed during the incident.

Around 1 p.m. Wednesday, HCPD Officers and Detectives, and members of the Fugitive Task Force, apprehended Michael James Stenger, age 19, of Murrells Inlet, in connection with this case, Denis said.

Stenger was transported to the Horry County Detention Center where he is charged with two counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted murder.There’s no word on the clerk’s condition.

This is the second shooting at this particular gas station in less than a year.  On August 24, 2014, a clerk was shot  multiple times during an armed robbery.  Three teens were later arrested and charged in that shooting.
