Man arrested after boy says he was kidnapped at gunpoint

A Myrtle Beach man was arrested and charged after a boy said he was forced into a car at gunpoint.

26-year-old James Edward White is charged with kidnapping, assault and battery, unlawful carrying of a pistol, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

A police report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department says officers responded to 511 Maple Street around 2 a.m. after receiving a call about a boy claiming he was forced into a car at gunpoint. The boy told a dispatcher two men made him get into a gray or silver colored sedan and that he had heard a gunshot.

According to the report, an officer attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the boy’s description near 3rd Ave. S and Cedar St. The vehicle drove off and was later located near a mobile home park at 5th Ave. S. and Highway 15. Three males fled from the vehicle on foot. Officers chased the three subjects and were able to take one, who was later identified as the victim, into custody. He was taken to a local hospital due to minor injuries. No information on the boy’s condition has been released.

Police have not said if there were other arrests in relation to this incident, but said an investigation is ongoing.
