MARION, SC (WBTW) – Marion County voters elected Marion County Deputy Major Brian Wallace as sheriff Tuesday night.
Major Wallace is a seventeen year veteran of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
“It was just overwhelming but on January 3 we are going to hit the ground running,” said Major Wallace.
Wallace won the sheriff’s race Tuesday night with 84 percent of the vote in a three-man race.
He says in the next four years he plans to continue programs the department currently has in place.
But one of his main goals is to focus on what he loves most listening to and helping the community he serves.
“To understand the community you have to be a part of the community and not only will I do that but my officers will do that,” mentioned Wallace.
Community policing along with investing in more body cameras is on Wallace’s agenda during the next four years
In a 2013 report from SLED Marion County reported the fourth most violent crimes in the state.
“We will continue to be firm on drugs and drug dealing in the county. We are going to build upon that. We will have more presence with officers working in high crime areas too,” Major Wallace said.
While in office Wallace also plans to work closely with county officials and first responders to use every resource available after Hurricane Matthew.
“We are going to be more proactive than reactive in the future not only with the flood but with law enforcement in general,” mentioned Wallace.
With deep roots in law enforcement and in the community Marion County Deputy Major Brian Wallace says he looks forward to his new position and will embrace it.
“I’ve been in Marion County my entire life, raised my family here, built a home here so my roots are very deep in Marion County,” said Wallace.
