LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – Community members in Lumberton came together Thursday night to tell city leaders what they would like to see done to revitalize their downtown area.

One of the main topics of the meeting was one that’s been on the table for the people of Lumberton for more than twenty years, bringing a riverwalk along the Lumber River.

City council hired a consulting firm back in December to get the project started.

Now, with the help of the consultant, the Lumberton Parks and Recreation Department is applying for a grant to help with the costs.

Lumberton community member Richard Monroe said it’s something that would benefit the community in every aspect.

“So, it’s good for the business community. It’s good for families in terms of activities. It’s good socially and economically,” said Monroe.

In Thursday’s meeting, people said they would like to see walking trails, game stations, and an entertainment area along the riverwalk.

The city has added a survey to its website to let you choose what you’d like to see added to the area. Find the website at www.ci.lumberton.nc.us
