Lumberton police officer involved shooting at Dollar General

LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – Lumberton police confirm that an officer involved shooting occurred Tuesday night in Lumberton.

Chief Michael McNeil with the Lumberton Police Department says it happened at the Dollar General at 2505 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

The store is two blocks away from Lumberton Junior High School.

Witnesses and other sources told News13 the shooting happened before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

The Robesonian newspaper reported that a woman suspected in several thefts in the area was shot. The woman was airlifted to a hospital for treatment, the newspaper reported.

The SBI was called to the scene at the request of the Lumberton Police Department said Shannon O’toole with the SBI. The agency did not release any details about what led up to the shooting or the condition of the person who was shot.
