PEMBROKE – The Lumbee Tribe will hold its annual spring powwow on May 6-8 at the Lumbee Tribe Cultural Center at 638 Terry Sanford Rd. in the Red Banks community near Pembroke.

The “Dance of the Spring Moon” will feature a variety of dancers competing for thousands of dollars in prize money as well as a living history exhibit and stickball games.

Grand entries are 7 p.m. on May 6, noon and 7 p.m. on May 7, and 1 p.m. on May 8.

Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for children ages 6-12, and $5 for military and seniors age 55 and older. Sunday admission is $5 and a weekend pass is only $18.

Limited parking is available at the Cultural Center. Overflow parking will be at Purnell Swett High School. Shuttles will be provided to the powwow grounds.

Golf carts and all-terrain vehicles are not allowed on the premises for this event.

The main tent will be equipped with Power Breezers for enhanced comfort levels.

Terry White is the head male dancer and Sharee Strickland is the head female dancer. Tony Clark is the head drum judge while Keith Colston is the head dance judge. The emcees are Sandon Jacobs and J.D. Moore. Jamie Locklear is the arena director.

The host Northern drum is War Paint and Southern Sun is the host Southern drum.
