MARION, SC – Lucas Atkinson, of Marion, announced his candidacy for SC House District 57. SC House District 57 includes Marion, Dillon and Horry Counties.

Atkinson is a 2004 graduate of Clemson University. From 2006-2010, he served SC Senator Kent Williams as Administrative Coordinator for South Carolina Senate District 30.

“In my professional life for the past few years, I’ve worked to help the unemployed find jobs,” Atkinson said. “We need more jobs in our district and creating jobs will be my number one focus. When elected, I will work closely with local and state leaders to bring industry to the area and do all I can to help retain the businesses already committed to the district.”

His announcement release states, “The betterment of the local economy is a consistent theme of Lucas’ community service activities. For ten years, he has served on the Marion Chamber of Commerce, four years as a Board member and has served on the Marion County Progress Board for six years. He presently serves on iMpact Marion County, a grass roots effort seeking to equip the county’s workforce with the skills required to attract prospective industries and businesses, as well as inform small businesses of resources available to help them grow and sustain their businesses.”

Atkinson is vying for Representative Wayne George’s seat, as he has announced he will not return to Columbia for a third term.

Atkinson says, “I want this district to be the best it can be in education, in job growth, in agriculture, and in economic opportunity for all of its citizens. I’d be honored to have your vote and represent District 57 in Columbia.”
