MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The Orlando shooting has affected people across the nation and here in the Carolinas.
A vigil at the Hilton Garden Inn in Myrtle Beach was held with the theme love conquers hate.
It was standing room only as the group Takeover Grand Strand brought people together to stand in solidarity with those lost in the attack, and the larger LGBT community.
Terry Livingston, the group’s executive director said it was to, “come together be with their friends and just try to release all those bad feelings.”
Trey Simmons had visited the city and knew some of the victims, “I’m not as close as some of those in Orlando, but I still ache.”
Simmons said the outpouring of support was uplifting, “just becoming one so to speak, unified for a lack of better phrase, and it’s just a great feeling.”
Monday’s vigil lasted 49 minutes in remembrance of the 49 people killed this weekend.
