CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A Loris man will spend the next three decades in jail after a jury convicted him of homicide by child abuse in the 2013 death of a 3-month-old infant.
A press release from the Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office says jurors deliberated for less than 90 minutes before they convicted Hassan Robert Tyler of homicide by child abuse in the death of his own son. Judge Steven H. John sentenced Tyler to 30 years in jail.
Assistant Solicitor Martin Spratlin noted that because the crime was a “violent most serious offense Tyler must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for release.”
Tyler was arrested in December 2013 after Loris police officers and agents with the State Law Enforcement Division began an investigation into the baby’s death. The child was taken to Loris Hospital that same month with bruises and a skull fracture, and died a short time later, the solicitor’s office confirms.
