LORIS, SC (WBTW) – A 19-year-old Loris man has been charged with child abuse after reports about an injured 2-year-old girl.
Police arrested Shawn Billings on charges of abuse, to inflict great bodily injury upon a child.
According to the case report, medical records show the 2-year-old was found to have skull fractures with large severe brain bleed (the brain bleed is on top of a previous one), numerous bruises about her body that are healing at different stages, lice in her hair, and her teeth are in poor condition.
Police said Billings was alone with the child when they arrived. He told police he was mopping the kitchen floor when the 2-year-old girl ran and slipped on the floor, hitting her head.
Medical personnel said the types of injuries found on the child are not consistent with a normal slip and fall, according to the report.
Billings is in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $30,000 bound.
