LORIS (WBTW) – Horry County police are investigating a possible arson after two people were injured in a house fire late Sunday evening in Loris.
According to the Loris Fire Department Chief Jerry Hardee, the fire started before 8 p.m. at a home on Bennett Loop in Loris.
Reports from Horry County police say police were called to the scene in reference to “a suspicious 911 call”. Two victims were found at a home across the street with burns to their arms and hands.
Hardee confirmed two people were injured, one person was taken to the hospital by helicopter and the other was taken by ambulance.
One victim told police they were watching TV when they heard a noise in the living room and found that a beer bottle had been thrown through the window, reports say. Victims told police the fire began after a second bottle was thrown through the window.
The Horry County Fire Investigator responded to evaluate the scene for possible arson. Police reports say the investigator was using a canine to detect the presence of accelerants, but the dog did not hit on any around the home or on the porch.
The investigator attempted to have the dog go through the home, but the damage was too significant to investigate the interior of the home, reports say.
