LORIS, SC (WBTW) – A Loris High School teacher has been arrested after open beer was found in her desk at school.

Police were called to Loris High School on Thursday around 10 a.m. about a minor car accident with no property damage, according to an incident report from the Loris Police Department. During the investigation into the car accident, a student noticed beer cans in her car. When administrators went to her classroom to get her bag, they found an open can of Ice House beer in the desk.

She was charged under the City of Loris ordinance for possessing an open container. When they searched her bag, they reportedly found more unopened cans of beer and 2 unopened mini bottles of Smirnoff Vodka.

Lisa Bourcier, with Horry County Schools, released a statement to News13, saying:

“I can confirm that Jessica McCoy is a science teacher at Loris High School. After her arrest on Thursday, March 7, she has been placed on administrative leave with pay. She began her employment as a science teacher with Horry County Schools in August 2015. No further comments can be made as it is a personnel matter, and the incident remains under investigation by school administration.”

McCoy was booked around 1:10 p.m. on Thursday and released around 3:45 p.m. Thursday, according to J. Reuben Long Detention Center. She received a $100 bond.
