Longs man found guilty of murder in death of former Loris High football star

CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – An Horry County jury convicted a Longs man of murder in the shooting of three people, which resulted in the death of one man.

Devonta Edward Williams, 21, also was convicted of two counts of attempted murder in the November 2016 shooting death of Levi Moody, 19, and the injury of two other people who were standing nearby, according to state prosecutors with the Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

The trial began on Monday. Levi Moody was a running back for Loris High School, and made the All-Blitz team his senior year.

Judge Steven H. John sentenced Williams to 35 years in prison for Moody’s murder and 30 years on each attempted murder charge. The prison sentences will run concurrently and Williams will not be eligible for early release.

“Levi Moody’s life was taken way too soon and I hope the jury’s decision and judge’s sentence helps his family complete the healing process,” said Seth Oskin, the assistant solicitor who prosecuted the case along with George DeBusk, a senior assistant solicitor.
