MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Around two dozen Myrtle Beach teenagers met on Sunday afternoon at the Mary C. Canty Recreation Center.
It was the first meeting for the Mary C. Canty Life-Long Impacted Teens, or MCC LIT, program where local teens are hoping to use their influence to make a difference in the community and in their own lives.
“I want to join the board because I feel like us as teens, we are the future,” said Myrtle Beach High School senior, Kiana Adderton.
The board, run by the city’s Youth Service Coordinator, Ja’Net Wade, is aimed at promoting leadership within the Myrtle Beach youth.
“I’ll be able to be more successful in sports and academically,” said Myrtle Beach High School freshman, Jamakion Spivey. “And be able to say that I made it.”
On Sunday, the teenagers discussed their academic and career goals, as well as what university they would like to visit. Wade hopes to plan field trips as well as events in the community to give the kids professional development skills.
The group will meet bi-weekly and the next meeting is Sunday November 20, 2016 at the Mary C. Canty Recreation Center.
