People in Horry County tried to stay a step ahead of the storm by stocking up at the grocery store on Saturday.

Many picked up extra non-perishable food, water, generators and propane tanks. The waiter aisles at some local grocery stores had already cleared out by the middle of the day.

Jarrad Compton is a Forestbrook resident who’s lived in Horry County for almost 20 years. He said he decided to purchase several cases of bottled water on Saturday because he learned his lesson last year with Hurricane Irma.

“By the time we decided to get water we were scrambling to find water. In the long run, I’d rather just be prepared that way the last few days I can more worry about preparing my house if we take a hit,” he said.

Emergency officials are advising people to make sure they have their storm readiness kits prepared ahead of a possible hit from Hurricane Florence.
