FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – The salsa social is back at Soule Cafe in Florence. The downtown cafe transformed into a dance party on Sunday as people stopped by to show off their moves.

Dancers from local dance company Aroha Arts Collective taught the class the basics of salsa dancing. They say the social is a chance for people to kick back and relax, dance and meet new people. And everyone, regardless of age or dance experience, is welcome to attend.

“You just show up, dance, bring your kids and nothing to plan. Nothing to worry about. So that’s what this one is. It’s an opportunity for us to practice dancing and meet our friends but also meet new people,” said dancer J.B. Mathieu.

Aroha Arts Collective doesn’t only teach salsa dancing. It offers a wide range of classes from West African to line dancing.

“This vision of creating a space where dance can bring people together and hopefully build bonds of friendship and have opportunities to break through some of the barriers that keep people apart,” said the owner, Adalia Ellis.

The salsa social is held on the fourth Sunday of every month at Soule Cafe. There are also classes held at the dance studio every week. If you’re interested in signing up, click here.
