LITTLE RIVER, SC (WBTW) – A Little River man has been charged after an elderly woman was reportedly found immobile and without food.
Officers responded to the Knoll Drive area of Little River on April 24 for a neglect complaint from the Department of Social Services, according to an incident report from the Horry County Police Department.
Upon arriving, officers met with the complainant, a DSS adult protective services specialist, who reportedly stated that she received a call from hospice that a man was not properly caring for the victim, an 87-year-old woman, and leaving her home alone. She also reportedly said that hospice had discontinued services because of the “erratic” behavior of the man towards the hospice staff and visiting nurses.
Officers entered the home and found the victim “laying in the bed on a bare mattress and smelling of urine and feces unable to move and lethargic,” the report also said. The report said officers also saw that there was no food in the refrigerator or freezer.
The victim was taken into emergency protective custody and taken to a hospital.
No information on her condition is available.
William Thomas Neville III, 55, of Little River, was arrested, according to the report.
Neville was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center around 6:10 p.m. on April 24, booking records show. He was released around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday. His charge is listed as neglect of vulnerable adult and bail was set at $5,000.
