MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) – On Sunday afternoon, the patio at Big Beaver Restaurant looked like a carnival. There were inflatables, a dunk tank, face painting and sno-cones as well as a silent auction. It was all part of the 5th annual “Lilypalooza.” Every year, the event raises money for children in Horry and Georgetown Counties who are battling cancer.
“It’s great having the local cancer families get together and have a fun day,” said organizer, Jennifer Johnson. She started “Lilypalooza” and named it after her daughter, Lilly, who was diagnosed with cancer when she was just six-years-old.
Sunday’s event raised money for eight families in the area.
“When your child is fighting cancer, it’s very tough and a lot of families lose one if not both of their incomes,” added Johnson.
She said the money raised helps families with rent, mortgages, gas cards and anything else they need while their child goes through treatment. Johnson works for the organization, Courageous Kids.
