LATTA, S.C. (WBTW) – Earlier this morning I spoke with Latta Police Chief Crystal Moore who could not go into the details about the suspension but said she was surprised. I spent the rest of the day talking with people in the area who said they were also surprised by the suspension.

Denise Hayes said, “You can always count on Crystal, she’s always been there for everyone. No matter what time of day or night it is. She’s always been there.”

Denise Hayes and others I spoke with didn’t say anything negative about Crystal Moore’s job performance.

The Town’s Administrator, Jarret Taylor refused to explain why she’s in trouble.

He described the issue as a personnel matter.

Taylor said, “While I understand the popularity of the Chief. I still have a job to do. I was elected as a Councilman for the Town of Latta and Council elected me as Administrator.”

Two years ago, Latta’s Mayor fired Crystal Moore for what he called insubordination.

He claimed she got fired because she was gay.

The Town’s voters took away his power and gave it to the town council. Crystal Moore got her job back.

As for this suspension, City officials haven’t said what will happen once it’s over.

Latta Town Administrator Jarret Taylor said the Interim Police Chief will be Derrick Cartwright for the next 5 days.
