FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A large donation will help fight against breast cancer in the Pee Dee.
Organizers with the 2015 McLeod for Health Florence Open USTA Pro Circuit Women’s Tennis Tournament presented a $6,000 check Tuesday to Susan G. Komen Lowcountry. The donation included profits made from the 2015 tournament.
Dr. Amy Murrell, of McLeod Health, says Tuesday’s donation also serves as an important reminder for the community.
“It’s just another reminder to get your mammogram [and to] be aware that breast cancer affects everybody in your community,” she explained. “It gives money back to [the] Susan Komen Foundation and they give a lot of money to the Florence and the Pee Dee area.”
Susan G. Komen Lowcountry serves 17 counties, including Florence County, Georgetown County, Horry County and most of the Pee Dee.
McLeod Health also announced Tuesday it will sponsor this year’s tennis tournament in October.
