LAKE CITY, SC (WBTW) – Lake City officially opened its new lake, and park, on Friday.

Hundreds of people gathered at the site to celebrate the opening of the $4 million project.

“It’s a lot of money invested in it, but money well spent,” Mayor Lovith Anderson told News13. “It’s something that will last, and serve the citizens of this community for a long long time.”

The Mayor said the project has been years in the making, and that the park was under construction for three years.

Anderson said the lake has been a long time coming for the area.

“Well you know when you have Lake in your name, most people expect you to have one,” said Anderson. “It will answer the trivia question, ‘Where is the lake in Lake City?'”
Paddle boarders took to the water right after the ceremony.
The new park has swings set up around the lake, a boardwalk that stretches nearly a mile, and its own event space for parties.
Anderson said he’s proud to see the new space turn from mounds of dirt to flowing water.
“Turning what was once a public works area into something as beautiful, and green, and people can walk, and hike, and fish,” he said. “It’s something that’s going to be very beautiful.”
The Mayor said the lake is a necessary space in the Lake City
“The idea that a water feature, in any community, is a great thing to have because you can sit there, and just watch the water, and feel serene or you can sit out there, and read a book, or you can just sit out there and commune with nature,” he said.
