LAKE CITY, SC – Florence County School District Three received a huge boost to its annual school supplies drive Tuesday when KJ’s IGA in Lake City donated more than $600 in supplies to benefit area students.
Store manager Chuck Jones said the donations came from the store’s customers. For the past week, cashiers asked customers if they wished to donate money to the supplies drive or if they wished to pay $5 for a bag of supplies. The $600 was collected by the store in just one week, and Jones said he plans to continue the supplies drive for an additional two weeks.
Yvonne Scott, FCSD3 director of college, career and student outreach services, said parent Johnice Williams, who was involved in the district’s school supplies drive approached Lake City IGA about donating gift cards to purchase the supplies.
“IGA has always been very supportive of Florence School District Three,” Scott said. “We are so thankful that they decided to be involved in our school supplies drive. It will benefit so many of our students.”
The school supplies will be given to students Thursday, Aug. 11, when FCSD3 schools host open house from 3-7:30 p.m.
