NASHVILLE (MEDIA GENERAL) — If anyone has cornered the market on catchy-yet-motivational pop songs, it’s definitely Katy Perry. The “Roar” and “Firework” songstress released yet another inspirational tune, “Rise,” just in time to serve as the soundtrack for some big national and international events.
On Monday she shared a trailer for the official music video, which comes out on Aug. 4, just in time for the opening ceremony in Rio on Aug. 5. Take a look:
In the clip, Perry struggles with a giant pink parachute. There’s no telling what will happen in the full video, but the song’s title might give eager fans a good hint.
“This is a song that’s been brewing inside of me for years that has finally come to the surface,” Perry said on her website. “I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to reunite. I know that we can rise above the fear—in our country and around the world.”
Not only is it the official anthem for the 2016 Rio Olympics, she also dedicated it to Democratic Presidential Nominee Hillary Clinton during her performance at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Pa., on Thursday, July 28, 2016.
