NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — The United States Department of Justice will announce their decision to launch a comprehensive review of the North Charleston Police Department Tuesday.
Representatives from the Justice Department, North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey and North Charleston Police Chief Eddie Driggers will hold a news conference Tuesday at North Charleston City Hall.
In April, Mayor Summey asked for the review to come from The Justice Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
There has been a lot of scrutiny from the community since the shooting death of Walter Scott.
The request for the review stems from concerns from the city since then.
With the request of the review, the city asked the department to come for three years, one year of evaluation and two years for recommending and implementing a change in policing policies.
